Botanical Garden

To preserve and showcase all species found in the mine site, PGMC had initiated the establishment and development of a 5-hectare Botanical Garden located in the Platinum Heights area which started in March 2019. The garden serves as the recovery and captive-breeding/culture area for all wildlife species collected from the disturbed areas within the company’s MPSA and also serves as a bioprospecting area to initiate and support scientific studies on the conservation of biological diversity.

Various plant species can be found in the Botanical Garden which includes 42 species of trees, 5 species of shrubs, 3 species of palms, 7 species of herbs, 6 species of grass, 11 species epiphyte nine/liana and 3 species of ferns and ferns allies. The maintenance and continual improvement of this garden is one component of the company’s Annual Environmental Protection and Enhancement Program. Further, the Botanical Garden was also a company’s response to the Republic Act 9147, the Wildlife Conservation Act of 2001, which aims to conserve and protect the wildlife species affected by mining operations.

Aside from being the home of numerous species, the company’s Botanical Garden was also developed as a natural park with attractive landscapes and ornamentals and it now offers a scenic off coast islandic horizon that can be experienced from the garden’s observation pad.
